One week

Its been one week we've had our sweet baby Brigden here with us, and a good week it has been. Here is a little recap of our hospital stay.
Tuesday we had visitors in and out, some of which I don't even remember seeing, I guess that is what a little morphine and a bunch of other drugs do to you. I was practically holding my eyes open and actually feel asleep mid conversation on a couple of guests, only to come back talking about something completely different, sorry folks.
Wednesday was a nice leisure day with a few visitors(Michelle and Michelle), Ko came for a visit with dad, and then Gina took him to spend the day with her and Kade, THANK YOU! And my sister stopped by for a bit that evening.

Brigs gave Ko a little present which he is obviously ecstatic about, a Big Brother book and a little Barney Stormin airplane from Cars

That night I was feeding Brigs around 1 AM and I started shaking really bad, like worse than when I am on the surgery table, which is bad! So I told the nurse that came to pick Brigs up to take him back to the nursery and she brought me 3 warm blankets, put them on me and I was back to sleep. Then I woke up about 4 AM and was sweating. I told the nurse I was really hot and she took my temp and it was 101. Here is where the fun begins.
Thursday morning when my doc came in to see me he mentioned they where worried I might have influenza A, which is basically swine flu right now. It was kind of a blur what he said as I was half asleep and not really sure what he was talking about. Next thing I knew my nurses where coming in masked, robed and gloved. They brought me Brigden and told me he wasn't able to go to the nursery anymore, that I wasn't able to have any visitors other than Phil and that if I wanted to leave the room I would need to wear a mask. What the? By the way at this point I am feeling 100% NORMAL! So I called Phil and told him all the news. Lucky for us my sister was taking Koen up to Lava Hot Springs for our family vay*k that morning, one less thing to worry about. Phil was kinda shocked that they would just jump right to the flu after only one temp so I asked my nurse why that was the case. She said that there was a girl in postpartum who had come back positive for the flu and she was in the OR right before me. So that whole day they checked my temp and vitals round the clock and everything was normal, yet we continued to be graced with a mini Halloween. They kept apologizing and I was like "I think it is funny, here I am feeling fine and you are all parading around in such getup, comical really."
Totally made my nurse pose for a pic
Me obviously feeling fine.

Friday night they did a little couples dinner. They carried in our table with their getup on and probably seriously sanitized it after. It was a cute idea, and the food was surprisingly good. And of course Brigden wanted to eat at the same time! Ü So we had to take a little pause.

So for the remainder of my stay I continued to show all signs of normalcy but was confined to my room as infected. I am so glad Koen was in Lava with my family, because of that Phil was able to stay with me for hours at a time. At least amid the confinement I was able to finish about 2/3 of my baby announcements. YAH me! They ended up keeping us until Saturday so that Brigden could do some time under the bili lights, Phil and I make some serious jaundice kids.
First day just on the bili bed
Second day straight tanning. He hated being naked and wearing the goggles. He would wiggle and wiggle till they would come off. One time I looked over and they were around his mouth and his diaper had "wiggled" off too!

Saturday Phil picked us up and we headed out to infect subway with our "disease" haha. I figured after being stuck in that small room for 3 days we weren't going straight home! And Subway is pretty much my favorite. haha

All ready to go
Dad and the doll baby
Good thing I had brought a couple other outfits to the hospital with us. A shortsleeve/short outfit doesn't really work with 50 degrees and rain!
Sweet boy!

Koen came home on Sunday and wasn't the slightest bit concerned that we had a new move in while he was away, he was actually thrilled. He loves to hold baby, and needs to know where he is at all times. The other day he was so cute saying "watch me crawl baby" and "watch me walk baby" he cant wait to show him all the things he can do. He wants to hold him about every 5 minutes for about 30 seconds. So he washes his cute little hands and takes his turn holding him and then says "I'm all done" like it was the greatest little 30 seconds ever. He also constantly wants to see baby's toes, fingers and belly button, and loves to do this silly little laugh entirely to close to Brigs' little face.

Cute little man in the outfit we brought Koen home from the hospital in, flash backs!
Pleased as pie to be a big brother

Thanks to all the friends and family who have helped with Koen and who visited us. We love you all and are so happy to have you share in this new little addition to our family.
Brigden you are such a sweet little baby, we are blessed to add you to the Olsen clan, where I am now getting sorely out numbered in the boy/girl ratio 4:1, we should have got a girl dog. haha Thanks for being such a good baby so far, I sure love to kiss and cuddle you! ♥
And a HAPPY FATHERS DAY shout out to Phil. It was probably a little overlooked this year being the day after I got home from the hospital. But I hope Phil knows how much we love him! He is a great dad and a great husband. Keep up the good work babe, I'll need it now more than ever! Ü I love you!

Who's Who???

We think Ko and Brigs look like twins, can you tell who's who?

Welcome Baby

Brigden Lovell Olsen

Born June 16th at 2:16 PM. He weighs 6 lbs 6 ounces and is 19 inches long. He sure is a mini Koen head. We are so happy to have another little guy. Mom and baby are both well!
Please disregaurd my puffy eyes, a few tears give those to me everytime!

I will post the details for who ever wants them....
I went into Labor the night before my scheduled section. I didnt sleep one bit because the contractions where too strong and I wanted to time them. After 3+ hours of contractions every 5 minutes I decided to wake Phil up an go to the hospital. The whole way there I was sure they were going to send us home cause I thought I would only be like a one. When we got there at about 6:30 AM, I was a 3+ and so they kept me. My doctor came and broke my water and said I was moving along well because I was at 4 then. After about 2 hours in the hopital I got my epidural. Love the drugs! The next time the nursed checked I was a 5. Great, moving right along. Until the next time she checked and I was a 5+. My doc came in about 45 minutes after that check and also reported a 5+ with some swelling of the cervix. He said he would come back in a hour and hopefully I would be progressing , and if not we would need to take him cesarean. They dont let you labor as long on a VBAC because of the strain on the uterus. When he came back things were the same but more swelling of the cervix. I guess that happens when a baby sits in a spot to long, it irritates the cervix and then it sweals. He said I am basically too small to birth a child. He wouldn't fit in between my "tiny" pelvic bone, so he was just stuck. So about 1:30 we were getting all prepped for the section. I am glad I had the chance to labor and try just for the fact of knowing that I couldn't do it (I really thought last time was all because the cord was so tangled on Koen, but it looks like he wouldn't have been able to either way) instead of just going for my planned c-section still wondering.

Just moments ago. coming to you live from Alta View Hospital! haha

Small side note...

So I had a few questions in my comments on mode of delivery for this child. So here is the story....

I had Koen Cesarean because we was ultra tangled in the cord. I have desires to do a Vbac(vaginal after cesarean) however my doctor will not let me go over my due date which is Tuesday. He feels the risk of uterine rupture at the place of the previous incision increases as the uterus continues to grow and stretch, as in past the due date. This is the reason my c-section is scheduled for my due date and not sooner(he would have scheduled it anytime after 39 weeks) So unless I have the baby tonight or tomorrow Tuesday is the day. I have been having tons of contractions the last few days and lost my mucus plug today(TMI?) so I am off to walk on the treadmill for a bit and see if baby wants to come on his own.

I'll leave you with one last prego pic...glorious day last one. Phil took this pic of me today before church...39 weeks 5 days! Doesn't get much closer than that folks.

One last post...

From our family of 3....

Next time I write it will be with the addition of our little guy, I am sure of that. I am 39 weeks and 2 days preg and if he doesn't come before Tuesday, I will be having him cesarean that day. Baby's name is still undecided, but I think we are making progress. I am feeling great on the days that come with no back pain. Sometimes my lower back hurts so bad I feel like a 90 year old woman, other days I feel like a million bucks...today a million bucks, lets hope it can hold for 5 more days!
39 weeks

So here is one last post from our family of 3 with a few things we have been up to as of late.

** I was able to go to dinner with some of my best friends from Highschool while Sarah was in town. It was really fun to see them and catch up, especially as Sarah got engaged while she was here! YAHOO! We sure missed Kens, Mind, Miss, and Chels.
The girls, and the little ham who needed to be in the pic too!
Koen and Aunty Britty!
Koen started getting a little restless and then saw this fountain. I decided to take him out there and let him play. He loved dipping his feet in and making foot prints.

**While Phil was off graduating, my sister came up for almost the whole time. It was great. The kids played, we scrapbooked. The weather was actually nice and we did lots of fun stuff outside! Thanks to my cousin Kinder who lives in Daybreak we went to her splash pool twice and the lake out there. The kids loved it, and it was sun so so did I! We also met our friend Angie and her kids at Thanksgiving Point one day to see the animals! My sister and sister in law also took Koen to the park with them one day while I was tutoring...thats right, I am employed. haha I am tutoring a girl for Anatomy, it is great since I dropped my class for the summer it is nice to have that.

**After Koen's birthday last week we just laid low.(side note, yes I did make Koen's birthday cake. I get a little ambitious once a year and try to do something fun/festive) It is funny how I haven't gone to school the whole time I have had a kid and never felt "free" but in the last 2 weeks since I decided to drop my class I have felt like a new woman. I am really enjoying my "free" time that was filled with studying before. I will take advantage of that this summer, before school starts again in the fall.
Koen with his new scooter, helmet, and knee pads.

** On Sunday my brother blessed his new baby. I am excited for my baby to have a cousin so close in age. I know Koen has loved having Kade and Claire so close and this baby will get a cousin on both sides that are close too! We also had a little family party for Frank and Koen that day, Frank is one year and one day older than Koen. Special.
Frank, Koen and hey Claire didnt want to miss out
I couldnt resist adding this pic, because I think it is the last pic we took of the 3 of them together...I think they have grown a little. (6/5/06)

** Gina and I wanted to throw a little graduation party for our cute grads. How fun is it that best friends/brothers could both move to PA at the same time to attend graduate school, only two hours apart, both attend programs that were 3 years long and graduate at the same time? SPECIAL! Nate graduated from U of Pittsburgh in Law and Phil from LECOM in Pharmacy. We had a little party for them last night at my moms house, because of the rain(do I still live in Erie? You would think with this crappy weather!) and I think it turned out great. Thanks to my mom for letting us change it to her house and for all who came to congratulate the graduates!
Congrats Grads!
Nate and Gina
Cute grads!

My honey, me and all 39 weeks of baby!

**Today I finally finished getting baby stuff ready. I realized a couple days ago at the store that I didnt even have any diapers for this kid...opps! Or baby wash, lotion, pacifiers...I am a little under prepared. So we got some of that stuff at walmart the other night and today I put up the swing and got out the other baby things. The room has been pretty much done for a while now, except for the empty shelf which is waiting to have his first initial on it along with Koen's and a cute pic of the two of them. That will just have to wait I guess! My sisters friend made some of the things for my bedding along with rag quilts for both of them! I LOVE the way they turned out!
