Dumb Dumb Antibodies!!!

Today we found out that at 17 weeks my antibodies toward the E antigen are on the rise! Grrr. We were really hoping that this pregnancy would be unaffected by our darn blood incompatibility. At 9 weeks my titer was 1:2, this was the highest my titer ever got with P. Dr. L and I talked about how this would and could still be in my system from last time but that we would watch it. I was sorely disappointed today when they called with the results of 1:4. At 17 weeks we are already on the rise. That mean baby most likely has the E antigen too. It stresses me out because with Pierce my antibodys didn't start rising until 30 weeks.

So, basically if you don't know what Anti E blah blah blah is....it is part of the Rh group. I am sure you or someone you know has to get the good ol Rogam shot because they have a negative blood type, and hubby is positive. What most people don't know is that being positive means you have a D antigen on your blood and being negative means you don't. Well our problem is Phil has E and I don't. The main thing that sucks about Mr E is there is no "rogam shot." It isn't as common (really there are SO many different antigens you can have on your blood it is CRAZY!) so not shot has been developed. The problem is the same as if you were negative and got no rogam shot. My blood attacks babies blood if it has antigens mine doesn't. So far we are 1-2, Koen is E- and Brigs and Pierce are E+, looks like baby #4 is too.

Anyway, we are feeling a little stressed at the moment with this news. All though the critical titer is 1:16 and we aren't there I feel like because we are already on the rise we may actually get there this time. Which would mean ultrasounds to watch blood flow through babies brain to see if baby is getting anemic and if so could mean blood transfusion in or out of the womb. We will hope and pray that baby is fine and we wont have to get to that point.

When we met with the MFM doctors preconception he reassured us that things would likely go similar to how they did with Pierce if another pregnancy was affected. He told us the levels would be higher of course but likely wouldn't get crazy high because they didn't with Pierce. He said you usually tend to follow the same pattern. Hopefully that will be the case and we will stay under the critical titer.
